Cashier System Gets Icons

Been working on some new icons for the cashier point-of-sale system, mainly the home screen where you can select the main category of product and the drinks screen with 8 x product options for drinks in the store.

In "Pump 3 Please!" the player will have the option of adding items to the checkout by either scanning them on the scanner on the left (blup..) or adding them manually through the "Home Screen Menu". There may also be times when the product has no barcode to scan or the scanner system is set to "broken" for that shift!

Creating the whisky icon

To create the icons I used GIMP (poor man's photoshop) to create a 22x22 px canvas and used the original NES limited color pallete that i have been using throughout the project along with a 1x1 pencil. Then once i was happy with the icon it was scaled up to an 88x88 px size (with no interpolation) and added into the pos system (Unity UI) as a button.

Creating the coffee icon

A 20x20 pixel section in the center (after the border) to draw the icon is quite limiting so you really have to think about each pixel you fill in, this was a challenge but i enjoyed it.
This is the first time i have attempted pixel icons so i was kinda winging it but i am happy with the way they turned out.

HOME MENU ICONS

HOME MENU PRODUCT CATEGORIES:

  • FUEL
  • PHONE TOP UP
  • DRINKS
  • SNACKS
  • UTILITIES
  • LOTTERY
  • MEDS

* utilities will include gas, electricity and water services that can be payed via the pos system's "e-voucher" screen which will connect to an energy company to allow customers to put credit on their meter's (not sure if this is just a UK thing?), similar to the phone credit top up screen.

Next i will be working on the icons for the snacks and the meds.
There is a new window behind the main counter with Cigarettes, Wine & Spirits and a small section for basic over-the-counter Medications.
